The ratio of sustainability courses to total courses/subjects

Integration of Sustainability in Academic Courses at Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University (SNRU)

Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University (SNRU) is deeply committed to embedding the principles of sustainable development into the core of its academic mission. Our curriculum is strategically designed to align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the criteria of the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings. This commitment is not limited to specialized environmental programs but is integrated throughout our general education offerings, ensuring that all students gain a foundational understanding of sustainability.

A comprehensive analysis of our general education courses for the 2025 academic year (B.E. 2568) reveals a complete and intentional alignment with sustainability principles. For this evaluation, a course is defined as a “sustainability course” if its content and learning objectives can be mapped to one or more of the 17 SDGs.


Course Analysis and Ratio

Semester 1/2025:

  • A total of 47 general education courses were offered.
  • Upon review, all 47 of these courses (100%) were found to have direct or indirect linkages to the SDGs. These connections span a wide range of topics, from courses like ‘Exercise for Health’ (SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being) and ‘Environment and Sustainable Development’ (addressing multiple environmental SDGs) to ‘Law in Daily Life’ (SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions).

Semester 2/2025:

  • The curriculum was expanded, with a total of 88 general education courses offered.
  • Similarly, a thorough mapping confirmed that all 88 of these courses (100%) are aligned with sustainability principles. This includes specialized subjects such as ‘Waste and Refuse Management’ (SDG 11 & 12), ‘Climate Change and Natural Disasters’ (SDG 13), and ‘Sufficiency Economy for Sustainable Development’ (SDG 1, 8, & 12).

Conclusion for the Metric: The Ratio of Sustainability Courses to Total Courses/Subjects

Based on our analysis, Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University reports a ratio of 100% for its general education courses in the 2025 academic year.

This 100% integration demonstrates our foundational strategy of leveraging education as the primary driver for sustainability. This approach directly contributes to the Education and Research (ED) indicator of the UI GreenMetric framework by ensuring that every student at SNRU is equipped with the knowledge and awareness necessary to contribute to a more sustainable future.
