On August 14, 2024, Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University organized a public consultation meeting on “Upgrading the Standard of Sakon Nakhon Ma Mao Agricultural Products and Establishing a Fair Trade System.” The meeting was presided over by Mr. Veera Rerkwanichkul, Deputy Governor of Sakon Nakhon Province, with Asst. Prof. Chakrit Chanchitpreecha, President of the University, delivering the report. Participants included the Sakon Nakhon Provincial Agricultural Officer, Sakon Nakhon Provincial Commercial Officer, President of the Sakon Nakhon Chamber of Commerce, President of the Sakon Nakhon Ma Mao Association, Ma Mao farmers, collectors, processors, and research teams. The meeting took place at Soi Suwanna Meeting Room, 3rd Floor, Building 10, Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University. This meeting aimed to gather opinions to establish a Ma Mao trading system, specific product criteria, and fair and mutually accepted standards among stakeholders. It also explored ways to sustainably elevate the Ma Mao community enterprise. The initiative is a collaborative effort among Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University, Kasetsart University Chalermphrakiat Sakon Nakhon Province Campus, and Rajamangala University of Technology Isan Sakon Nakhon Campus, under the research project titled “Entrepreneur Development and Value Chain Upgrading of the Ma Mao Business Based on Local Resources toward a Circular Economy in Sakon Nakhon Province.” The project is funded by the Program Management Unit for Area-Based Development (PMU A) under the research framework “Capacity Building of Local Enterprises Based on Local Resources for Strengthening the Grassroots and Circular Economy.” The main goal is to revive the Ma Mao business—one of Sakon Nakhon’s signature products—to ensure its survival and growth, while creating employment and income opportunities for local residents in Sakon Nakhon Province.
