On August 3-4, 2023, the Institute of Language, Arts, and Culture at Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University held activities to preserve the tradition of Buddhist candles offering ceremony, in celebration of the annual Buddhist Lent festival. On August 3, 2023, Associate Professor Chakrit Chanchitpricha, deputy president, had given an opening speech for the event and was welcomed by Dr. Pasutha Komolmalai, director of the Institute of Language, Arts, and Culture. The activities included a lecture on the history of the Buddhist Lent and the benefits of practicing Dharma, along with a demonstration and practice session for making traditional candles in Surakhet Room, Building 1. This was followed by a lecture and demonstration on the traditional candle-making process.
On August 4, 2023, a candle procession was organized to the grounds of Wat Phra That Narai Chengweng in Mueang District, Sakon Nakhon Province, for the candle offering ceremony, led by Associate Professor Chakrit Chanchitpricha, along with university executives, staff, and students who participated in the candle offering ceremony.
The purpose of this event was to promote and support faculty, staff, and students of Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University to engage in religious activities, preserve, revitalize, and promote important cultural traditions and local wisdom, while also fostering good relationships between the community, the temple, and the university, which serves as a center for local learning.
