– Campus-Wide Awareness and Education: Foster a culture of sustainability by educating the campus community on the environmental impact of plastic waste and encouraging participation in reduction efforts.
4. Plastic Reduction Measures
– Prohibit the sale and distribution of single-use plastic items (e.g., plastic straws, cutlery, and bags) at campus facilities and events. Exceptions may apply only in cases where no alternative is feasible.
– Encourage students, faculty, and staff to use reusable water bottles, coffee cups, and food containers by providing refill stations and supporting vendors who offer discounts for bringing reusable containers.
– Require that all departments prioritize eco-friendly and plastic-free products in procurement, with preference given to suppliers that use minimal or biodegradable packaging.
– All campus events must adhere to “green event” guidelines, which mandate the use of reusable or compostable materials and ban single-use plastics wherever possible.
5. Implementation and Accountability
– Each department is responsible for reducing plastic use within its operations and ensuring compliance with the policy guidelines.
– Regular inspections will be conducted to ensure adherence to the plastic reduction policy. Any breaches will be documented, and corrective actions will be taken as needed.
– The policy will be reviewed annually by the Environmental Sustainability Office to assess effectiveness, identify areas for improvement, and update measures as needed.
6. Awareness and Training
– Conduct awareness campaigns, workshops, and training sessions to educate students, staff, and faculty on plastic reduction, sustainable alternatives, and responsible disposal methods.
– Place informative signage and provide digital resources across campus to remind the community of the importance of plastic reduction and promote sustainable practices.
7. Compliance and Non-Compliance
– All departments, vendors, and individuals on campus are required to comply with the plastic reduction policy. Non-compliance may result in corrective actions and penalties.
– Feedback mechanisms will be in place to encourage departments and individuals to identify further opportunities for reducing plastic use and improving sustainability practices.
